I'll be leaving South Africa in 10 days, and am in awe of this whole study abroad experience. Did I really know so little when I first got here? I feel like I know Durban and KwaZulu-Natal so well now.
I have had the lucky opportunity to walk in many different worlds, seeing through the eyes of Zulus, Afrikaaners, Englishmen, Indians, the rich, the poor, and many in between. I've learned where locals get delicious roti rolls at any hour of the night for just 25 rand. I've learned the candid intricacies of the South African prison system, and how offenders can be victims too. I've learned the feeling of flying. I've learned that I am extremely, extremely powerful.
I've always said that I am a very lucky person, but have never known it to be more true than now.

ReplyDeleteI met you briefly during my orientation at MICA two years ago. I don't know if you know me but I've seen you around and got your Durban blog from a friend, when she heard I had applied to SIT as well. I got accepted and confirmed and will be going to Bali, Indonesia for the duration of the Spring semester.
I've been following your blog and have drunk every word you've written with great enthusiasm - your experiences fill me with so much hope and excitement; I can't wait to get out there and learn everything and anything! Just going back to the beginning of your blog anyone can see how much you've grown - you really are powerful and blessed and I hope that I too get the opportunity to be the same. :)
So I see that you'll be back in a few days. I'd love to meet up briefly if you're up for it. I leave for winter break with my family in Texas on Dec 18th, so if that is cutting it too tight, I completely understand!
Also, I am subletting my room at this beautiful house on Charles and North Avenue (by the Studio Center) for the Spring Semester. I live with 4 others, all of which will be Juniors next semester. Rent is 500 and the room and house are FULLY furnished.
If you are interested in that or can meet up briefly I would be absolutely honored! Please e-mail me at: nabila.daredia@gmail.com
Thanks and have a safe trip back!
Cheers,
Nabila
